So, I've been going back and forth about whether or not to go private. On the one hand, I don't want to because this blog has been an opportunity to connect with people, some I knew in real life and some I've never met but would love to.  I don't do Facebook anymore because I was hacked and decided I was exceptionally uncomfortable with having to use my real name on there, plus all the privacy issues there have been with it in general.

I also like to hear what people have to say. But, ever since I took it out of search engines, the blog has been pretty quiet. That is fine, but since I already feel like I'm talking to myself, it is easier to consider the private option. I haven't had anything particularly bad happen, but I do feel like I'm censoring myself hard-core, yet still not always well enough.

We've had something happen recently that made me aware that I really don't know who is reading, and there are enough people without the ability to actually grow some and confront you directly that it can cause problems in unexpected places. Couple this with living in a much too small place with all the social problems that can occur because of that, and a job that can be pretty touchy as it is, and I am strongly leaning toward just turning it off for awhile. If enough of the people I know in real life, plus the (very) few I've met online that I am comfortable with care, maybe I'll add readers. I dunno. Must think on this...

i feel ya. we are at a tiny base in a place where marines stand out, hence why I'm so anonymous. and I understand the self censoring, I feel like if I want to write about what I'm really thinking I have to be way to pc or toss in 10 disclaimers!

good luck thinking about it.

I understand too. It's a tough line to straddle. That's the major part of why I went private on my old blog & then started my new one. I worry about things I'd like to just put out there & what would happen if I did too.

I totally agree about Facebook too. It just scares me how much info is out there even when you use their privacy settings. I would truly miss your blog though & hope that you would allow me to continue reading. Sorry that I don't always comment but I do always read!

I love reading your blog! I understand going private. I've gotten lucky with my blog and haven't had any problems....but I DO have a private one where only my "real life" friends can read the things I don't like to blast all over the internet. Maybe you can do the same. Have a private one for yourself and leave one to meet new people.

You know we went private just for that; the whole world in on our life business. I don't comment a lot either, but I definitely like to catch up on your end of the line. Good Luck!

I love to read your blog. I love the way you write. You take every day things and make them interesting. You are definitely a writer. It is great to see how my college friends are doing and your blog is wonderful. I understand you wanting to go private. We don't have a blog because of privacy issues. If you do go private or stop all together, keep writing.

I say do what makes you feel comfortable. I know I like reading your posts and don't comment and would hate to not read about your adventures and what you're up too but you have to do what you feel is best.
