Disposables are Trying to Be Like Cloth

I ran across this article today and had a good laugh. Apparently, the makers of disposable diapers have decided maybe those cloth diaperers have something in the cute look of their diapers. So, they are coming out with these fabulous designer diapers. You'll have to pay a lot more, however. These Pampers diapers will run you about $6 more for a pack of two dozen.

Um, no thanks. While I do agree it was high time they stopped pumping out such ugly diapers, the high cost of them only makes me happier I made the switch to cloth when I did. I do wonder how they will do - at what point are people willing to pay so much more just for their babies' butts to look cuter? Considering all the diaper-bargain sites, I'm guessing not much, but only time will tell. Those Huggies jeans diapers are pretty cute, though...

Confession: I started cloth diapering in part because of all the nauseating cuteness of the diapers. Apparently, I am that shallow.

this is hilarious. not 1 minute ago shane asked if i heard the npr segment today about diapers. he told me this same story! and about a commercial with a voice that says (in a suave, european accent): "when i go to do my #2, i look like i am #1." oh man.

Who cares what a diaper looks like? They're covered by clothes 90% of the time anyway aren't they?! I mean, I'll let vivi run around in nothing but a diaper at home if it's really hot but I'd never take her out that way. Why would you pay more just to impress...youself? I guess this whole thing is beyond me. (just like paying $1000 for a designer purse)

HAHA I've just recently started reading your blog, and I thought it was funny you said that you were shallow for choosing to cloth diaper be because of how cute the diaper are. :) I dabbled in cloth diapering with my oldest ( I still part time cloth diaper with prefolds and covers when we have bad rashes) and I decided not to convert fully because it drove me crazy that my daughter couldn't wear all her cute clothes over the bulky cloth diapers! And I thought I was shallow for that so...I think we cancel each other out! :)
