Welcome Home Banner Dilemma

Well, it's getting close to the time we can start thinking about making a Welcome Home Banner. I don't know why I have so much trouble with this, but I do. Even though I have no problem telling people what I think about things (my big mouth has unfortunately gotten me into trouble many times), I struggle sometimes when it comes to doing anything that is showy. I hate sticking out - but at the same time, I have no stage fright and will volunteer to sing or talk in church or wherever without thinking twice about it. I realize this makes no sense, but that doesn't mean I can figure out how to change it. So, the welcome home banner. People around here often paint their vehicle windows with messages for homecoming day, and I see banners attached to homes here in housing all the time. I have not done either. The closest I've come is a smaller banner on our front door - inside the screen door. There is also the one still hanging inside the garage by the door to the house that I made three years ago when Wyatt was born. That's where I hung it the day he came home, too. I'm a coward, and it's so dumb! It's not like anyone around here will think I'm weird; they all know what the deal is and have probably done it themselves. I know Oliver would think it's great, too, which makes it worse. So, this time, I'm thinking about making a big one for the outside of the garage door. Wyatt is actually old enough to really help me do it, too, so we could have some fun with it. Maybe whip out the finger paints or something. I have a big piece of paper leftover from something else that would work great for it. Hmm, maybe I should clean the upstairs bathroom, too....

I'd go ahead and do it just for the kids. They'll get a kick out of it :)

J hates it when he "sticks out". He'd be horrified if I ever made a banner or decorated or any of that for a welcome home. What a part pooper he is :P

Hi Ana,

I didn't publish you comment, but I did pass it on to the family. :)

When my kids were younger, we made a banner that said "Welcome home, daddy! We can't wait to get our hands on you." And then, I put the kids' handprints all over the banner in different colors. I had a 1 year old at the time and even he could help with the banner. That was my favorite banner. We still have it.

I LOVE the handprint idea!! I'm not sure it will work out this time, but I'm definitely going to use that idea the next time he goes out if we can't make it happen this time around.

Im with Mrs. Ssgt my husband would kill me. I keep saying I'm going to blow up a really embarassing picture of him and put it on the runway but I'd probably be out of a job if i did that! I say make a nice banner from the kiddies. Who wouldnt love to come home to that!?
